Urban Algae Canopy is a project that mixes architecture, biology and technology.
The micro-algae and digital farming systems in real time is an innovative renewable energy system that uses algae to produce the same amount of oxygen as forest.
The idea is the result of the work of ecoLogicStudio, which has other similar projects. As published in the Inhabitat website, the structure is formed by microalgae and it is possible to control the flow of energy, water and CO2, based on the weather patterns, movement in the environment and other environmental variables.
The creators assure that this is the first system of its kind in the world and upon completion, will be able to produce the same amount of oxygen released by four hectares of forest, in addition to 148 kilos of biomass per day.
The entire process from research and creation took six years until it was possible to arrive at the ideal model.vThis innovative technology has a custom coating system, with three layers that improve the properties of microalgae. In addition, a specific welding system has been applied so that it is possible to control the behavior of water that flows through the structure and feeds living organisms.
So how does it work? As the sun shines brighter, the algae in the Urban Algae Canopy carry out photosynthesis and grow. In this way, the transparency of the canopy is reduced and the internal environment has more shade.
